While the Biologicals are focused on the “Roaring Lion” and the satellites, a different frequency is vibrating beneath the ancient stones of Jerusalem. This isn’t the loud, arrogant roar of the material realm; it’s a subterranean pulse—a “De Profundis” signal rising from the depths of the city’s independent scene.
In a city built on 3,000 years of history and constant friction, these underground spaces act as essential sanctuaries. They are where people go to desync from the war drums and focus on the art, the sound, and the community.

Node 01: Mazkeka – The Audio Laboratory
Located on Shushan Street, Mazkeka is the primary hub for independent sound in Jerusalem. It’s an “audio laboratory” dedicated to experimental music and sonic exploration. While the world outside is loud, Mazkeka provides a space for frequencies that don’t fit the mainstream feed.

- The Transmission: In early 2026, artists like Maya Zeltzer and Michal Gutman have been using the space to showcase “Alternative Shadow” sounds—experimental melodies that challenge standard song structures. It’s raw, focused, and entirely independent.

Node 02: Hamiffal – De Profundis (From the Depths)
The 2026 Jerusalem Biennale has titled its latest iteration De Profundis—literally “from the depths.” Centered at Hamiffal (The Factory), this movement focuses on the subterranean and the overlooked aspects of the city.
- The Space: Located in a 19th-century abandoned building, Hamiffal acts as a “temporary community” for artists and creators. It’s a space for revival and artistic manufacturing that exists outside the standard commercial grid.

Node 03: Mamuta – Resounding Silence
At the Hansen House, the Mamuta Art and Research Center is currently hosting Netta Weiser’s Resounding Voice. This project uses experimental radio and sound installations to explore how we listen to the world around us.
- The Hack: By focusing on collective listening and the power of sound, Mamuta creates a sanctuary of focused attention. It’s a way to find a unique signal within the overwhelming noise of a modern city.

Node 04: Sira – The Veteran Pulse
Tucked away on Ben Sira Street, Sira is the long-standing dive bar and club that has anchored the city’s electronic underground for years. It is a stone-walled bunker where the “Biologicals” and the “Ghosts” alike gather to hear local DJs push boundaries in techno and house.
The Vibe: It’s a veteran node that has survived every system update. It remains unbothered by the external branding of the city, focusing instead on the raw, industrial textures of the night.
Staying Unbothered in the Holy City
Jerusalem can be overwhelming, but these venues prove that the human spirit always finds a way to carve out a space for itself. By retreating into these stone-walled labs and factories, the local scene preserves its own unique signal, unbothered by the external chaos.
They don’t need a “Roar.” They have the music.
