REST IN POWER DJ FUNK

My team and I’s sincerest conlences to his family & friends. I first got word Monday morning about a Go Fund Me that was going around for Funk, then woke up to the news he had transitioned the next day. Seeing everyone I know bummed about this news, we keep losing these legends from our lives, it sucks. I proceeded to see 2 days of nothing but beautiful words for the man, filling my feed on facebook from people’s lives he had personally touched all over the world. I feel like I’ve seen 100’s of these posts. They are all from people I know personsally, and other legends I look up to. I didn’t feel right having this platform and not telling my DJ Funk story.

I saw him play at a rave called “Shazam!”, it was my second warehouse party. Sir Mix-A-Lot was the headliner, I remember it like it was yesturday. At least 2,000 people were there, huge building, with 2 other rooms. Shit-ton of people in the main room where Funk was playing, who just hanging around in different spot. However, in front of the stage, at least 300… maybe 400, if not even more people, getting absolutely the most buck-wild! It was absolutely Sodom & Gomorrah, dirty, in-your-face, raging, you coul imagine. I loved witnessing ever second of it. So much screaming, hollering, debauchery, and booty shaking! I spent at least the next year bumping the shit out of “Booty House Anthems” cassette tape in my car, and I still jam that every once in a while when I come across it. I even have the flyers to share.

Honestly, I’ve never had an experience that lived up to that kind of vibe, nor I think that what went on in that building ever been close to being replicated again. I’ll never forget it, and the influence it’s had on me, and all of us. The music makes these moments happen and it will always be always be immortal in our lives.
