It’s been long overdue. I finally got the chance to catch an event at the iconic Patron Saint in Indianapolis. Most people who partake in Indy’s nightlife are familiar with the New Orleans-themed basement bar.

Established in 2018, the club provides a dark, inclusive, and cozy atmosphere. I was able to peep my head into both of the beautifully decorated VIP rooms. One of the rooms features a full Ouija board on its ceiling. It was definitely an atmosphere I could get used to.

Upon my arrival, Uriah G was on the decks. He already had a crowded room, with partiers jamming out to his infectious grooves. G blasted through an array of tech-house bangers, much to the crowd’s appreciation.

I laughed to myself as he mixed in the latest Lowee track, ‘Money,’ which features the lyrics “I make it rain like an avalanche, stacking up all these Benjamins. The money looks good on me.” It was a very on-brand track for G, and the crowd was having a great time!

Another very ear pleasing track I heard G play was ‘All Day, All Night’ by Hyperbeam, a super duo formed by Odd Mobb & OMNOM. The track used vocal samples from the 2011 dance chart topper, ‘Loca People’ by Sak Noel. The crowd really ate this one up. Uriah continues to stay on top of his game, bringing extremely fun sets.

The legendary John Larner graced the booth next. John did not play the lengthiest set, but what he did throw down kept the vibe alive. One thing I loved about watching Larner was seeing him cueing some of the tracks in on the media players like they were turntables, as opposed to what I refer to as ‘cue clicking.’ It definitely brought some old-school flavor I was looking to see in John. I loved it right out the gate when I heard him spin Mark Knight’s ‘Your Love.’ Roars of approval were heard from the crowd, when he worked in the super funky track ‘Upside Down’ by Monty Kiddo. The breakdown in this track is super hypeāso it’s no wonder. A solid set from this well-versed veteran.

The night reached its peak throughout Will Clarke’s headlining set at The Saint. The Grammy-nominated producer played an extremely eclectic set.
Clarke played versions of several of his own tracks, including ‘In Luv Wit U,’ ‘Give Me,’ ‘Tricky,’ and ‘The Hymn.’ He was able to seamlessly bring the crowd up and down, switching from dark and rhythmic techno beats to busting out uplifting house anthems with vocally soulful hooks. He especially bumped hard on tracks like James Haskell’s ‘Keep On.’ Another huge hit on the dance floor was when he dropped a version of ‘Around’ by Haze & Noir. I’m not sure which remix it was; I really wish I knew.

Clarke also played a ton of melodic stuff, bringing in some serious nostalgic rave vibes. We even heard rumors that some of the younger people were dismayed by it. However, I was really feeling it. I whipped out my phone to capture what you can hear in the YouTube video above. Unfortunately, nothing I had on my phone could identify the tune, and I’d really like to find out what it is.
With such a great experience, we can see what all the fuss has been about since the club’s opening. We’d like to wrap up and tell our readers about some upcoming events at The Patron Saint.

Every Thursday, The Saint hosts ‘Proper,’ a night curated by Nick Samaro and advertised as ‘dedicated to the foundations of house music.’ I’ve been following this event on social media for a long time, and one could call it definitive to Indy’s house music scene. I’ve seen some of my favorite local talents appear on these flyers. Here is tonight’s lineup. You can keep up with who is playing each week by following this Facebook group.

Another event popping off at The Patron Saint is the pop-house duo Lucky Guess on March 8th. Support will come from Jeff Crews and Mitch Narkoff. Details and tickets can be checked out on the official event page here.

Just announced, Mary Droppinz is going to be at The Saint March 15th. We’ll get both John Larner & Samaro as support. Those tickets can be purchased at this link.
